MIPL Cup Journeys

Several BYFC teams across all age groups enjoyed recent cup journeys to the finals in the Maidstone Invicta Primary League. Congratulations to all our teams that challenged in their respective groups and well done to all those Kent teams on their successes.

Thanks to Chatham FC, Snodland and Valley Park for hosting our teams as well as to the team at Maidstone Invicta Primary League for organising the events.

Under 7

Our Under 7 Youth team manager Chris Knight led the team to their cup final and described their journey as near fairytale cup story!

Chris said “Our U7’s team have loved their first season of “proper” football and as you’d expect from a team of mixed abilities, we’ve had mixed results. What we do consistently, is have a group who love football and want to get better.

In the run up to the League cup competition, the team were trying their hardest and worked their socks off. Then came the semi-finals day….

We played two teams in one morning and the hard work paid off.  We won our first game and our second game. Through to our first ever final AND two clean sheets (both were a first for us).

Come the Finals Day, there was real excitement among the team and their families. We were losing and with 60 seconds to go, we equalised! This meant we go to the best of 5 penalty shoot-out. Our goalie made two saves but unfortunately so did the opposition goalie. It went to a sudden death shoot out.

Unfortunately, we finished runners up, but I cannot put into words the indescribable joy and proudness all the coaches and parents felt for our team. They’ve all come on so much in their first year and now have a thirst for cup finals.

Watch out for us next year in the U8’s competitions!”

Under 8

In our Under 8 groups, we had two teams competing in the Blues and Colts.

Under 8 Blues Manager Dan Parks said “Barming Blues U8’s won their first ever challenge cup, at their first attempt. A narrow victory in the semis ensured a big finals day at Chatham FC’s ground. We won against a spirited team in the final. Goals by Lucas Parks, Sammy Eades and Teddy Pattenden, as well as a man of the match performance from goalkeeper Ollie Leader was greeted with jubilant scenes on the pitch and sidelines at the final whistle. A great team performance by all.”

Matt Jillians, Manager of the Under 8 Colts, reported their journey from the semis to the final saying “The final was held at Chatham Town stadium and what an exciting game!! We had a lead after the first quarter with goals from Jack Hutton and Leonardo Smith. We looked comfortable but were soon level with our opposition.

With the pressure now on and the opposition on the front foot Jack Hutton scored again restoring our lead.  We didn’t fall asleep this time but at the start of the fourth quarter the opposition levelled the score again!! In the last few minutes Jack Hutton scored again ensuring we secured the victory.

Probably the most exciting game I have ever watched! We have a squad of ten players and every single one of them has played their part in this cup win. Congratulations to Jack Hutton for their goals and player of the game in the final!”

Under 11

Our Under 11 Youth team, managed by BYFC Chairman Chris Brinn unfortunately lost out to their counterparts in the final. Chris said “We progressed to the final after winning our quarter final, and then our semi-final on penalties. The final got off to a slow start which saw Barming fall behind in the 5th minute the midfield of Freddie & Max got to grips with the game and were orchestrating things with hard work and good passing. This led to several attacks down the left through Ryan - it was from one of these attacks that Max scored to make the game level.

Shortly after another good passing move down the right saw Jackson cross for Ryan to give us the lead. The second half continued with chances created but the team just couldn’t get the final touch and put the game away. A quick break saw the opposition forward taken down in the area and they made it equal from the spot.

Another quick break saw our opposition take the lead against the run of play. Then with 2 minutes left and Barming really pushing for the equaliser the opposition scored again with a well taken header from a corner, securing them the win!

A second cup final loss for the team in 2 years was hard to take as they had dominated the game for long periods!

Under 10

Our Under 10 Colts were also unfortunate to lose in their Cup Final after enjoying success on their journey. Having finished their match with a draw it went to penalties where they just lost it. The team all put in so much effort and should be proud of the result!

Well Done to all the teams! On to next season!
